Applied Research Institute – Jerusalem (ARIJ) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable development in the occupied Palestinian territory. ARIJ has over 23 years of organizational experience in social and economic fields, natural resources management, and political dynamics of development in the local area. 

ARIJ plays an active part in the local community as an advocate for greater co-operation and good governance’s practices among local institutions, as well as international and non-governmental organizations. Some of the main goals of ARIJ are to disseminate information related to sustainable development, promote good governance, foster initiatives that lead to clean and healthy environment through improving natural resources management and contribute in improving the livelihood of the Palestinian society.

Role and Involvement in the Project

Participation in the Local-Sats project is a unique opportunity for ARIJ. This can help in developing capacities of local authorities so as to create more sustainable communities by applying an integrated and participatory approach to local policy making. ARIJ recognizes the importance of good governance at the local level, as well as the importance of co-operation and exchange of experiences and best practices among Mediterranean Basin institutions. This project is considered as a milestone for the occupied Palestinian territory that can improve local and national institutions’ governance processes using geospatial technologies.
