Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) was founded in 1925 and has since become the largest university in Greece, with about 80.000 students and 2.300 teaching and research staff. Currently, the University consists of 10 faculties and 49 departments. With more than 11.000 students, the Faculty of Engineering is one of the university’s largest and most dynamic constituents. The Laboratory of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (AUTH P&RS-LAB), School of Rural & Surveying Engineering, is well known for its research in Photogrammetry and especially in the development of close-range vision techniques.

During the last 10 years, the AUTH-P&RS-Lab has participated in more than 70 funded research projects, providing scientific expertise and services to areas of GIS, Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and GPS and several activities in related scientific fields, with a budget of approximately six million Euro. AUTH P&RS-LAB has critical mass of good quality research in several areas of P&RS with more than 70 scientific publications and papers in national and international journals and conferences over the last 5 years. Finally, research staff have received numerous personal awards and scholarships and Lab activities have received substantial coverage to the national media with more than 10 extensive article references to the written and electronic media over the last 5 years.

Role and Involvement in the Project

AUTH is committed to transferring the knowledge and expertise for the Gap and Best Practice analysis, thus being the Work Package-4 leader. Studies involve determination of geotechnologies applications in local governance, measurement and analysis of indicators, implementation of case studies and diffusion activities and workshop’s organization among others. AUTH will use all its influence and networks in order to facilitate dissemination of the project achievements among the targeted groups with the contribution of associates and stakeholders.
