General Agency of Regional Development was created by virtue of Law No. 94-82 dated July 18th, 1994, substituting an agency bearing the same name created by Law No. 81-77 dated August 9th, 1981. It has a personnel consisting of 300 employees working in the head office and the regional development offices in the governorates. The supervision rate is within the range of 47%, and females account for 42.5% of the total personnel. 

General Agency of Regional Development is in charge of the elaboration of development programs (integrated rural development programs and integrated urban development programs) requiring national coordination and of the follow-up of the implementation of such programs in collaboration with the concerned departments and their external services as well as with the local public authorities.

Role and Involvement in the Project

Being a partner of Local-Sats, the general agency of regional development organization will have the opportunity to gain more experience in the field of GIS through the exchange of experiences and best practices of geospatial applications which can help local governance to be more effective. This participation will involve capitalization of the best practices of GIS applications related to the local institutional transitional framework, as there is now a new process established by a recent “Constitution” which recognize “Devolution” as a new tool to achieve good public governance in Tunisia.
